The article concerns the peculiarities of modern Hausa poetry on political issues. This kind of literature arose from religious poetry, as well as folk songs. The majority of modern political poems constitute: a praise image of a charismatic leader, combining heroic traits and attributes of a pious man; ridicule of opponents, built also on typical patterns and creative images drawn both from religious poetry and oral literature.
