Parsi (Zoroastrian) community as seen in Rohinton Mistry’s works
Abstract
In this article the author analyses the depiction of the Parsi (Zoroastrian) community in stories and novels of the Canadian author of Indian origin, Rohinton Mistry. Rohinton Mistry was born in India and left the country during the political crisis in 1975.Though he established himself well in Canada Rohinton Mistry felt a great deal of nostalgia for India and Bombay and made the fate of his tiny community the main theme of his prose. Mistry depicts Parsees as old and established community in the largest Indian metropolis who, however, is losing its influence due to political change. Though very nostalgic about India and Bombay Mistry is extremely pessimistic about the fate of his community there.
