The Voice of the Indian Diaspora
Abstract
Indian diaspora is estimated to be the second largest after the Chinses diaspora. Its importance is evident in politics of many countries including Fiji, Trinidad and Mauritius. The cultural influence of the Indian diaspora is evident through Indian architecture abroad and not the least though its literature including novels of the Nobel-prize winner V. S. Naipul and the Bucker-prize winners Salman Rushdie and Monika Desai. The diaspora’s literature deals with themes of migration, hard labour, solitude, cultural conflict and the myth of return.
