Ethno-psycho logical characteristics and values of the Manden peoples (an analysis of oral tradition)
Abstract
This article is devoted to identifying the main ethno-psychological characteristics and the system of values of the Manden people (Bamana and Maninka) based on the analysis of the fable and epic tradition. Th e collectivist orientation of the Manden culture, refl ected in the epic as well as in fairy tales, determines the importance of glory in human life and behavioral constants that are based on mutual support and mutual activities. Some cultural institutions, in particular the oral tradition, give high priority to tolerance, reluctance to change the major principles and foundations, as well as external locus of control.
