“Lost” Characters in Japanese Stories Of the End of XXth — beginning of the XXIst Centuries
Abstract
Characters of modern Japanese writers, whose stories are analyzed in the article (Atoda Takashi, Akimoto Yasushi, Shiina Makoto, Murakami Ryu, Ekuni Kaori, Hayashi Mariko), are lost in modern world, having much in common with each other: solitude and internal emptiness, helplessness in front of circumstances and feeling themselves strangers in society, lead them to humility to their fate. All characters are united by having no strength for struggle with dignity, and prefer escaping from reality.
