Tsamkanī sheikhs and the Afghan written books culture in the XVIII century
Abstract
Based on original sources, including manuscripts, the article shows the role of Naqshbandiyya sheikhs from Tsamkanī family as upholders of the national Pashto literary traditions and advocates of the written books culture among the Afghans in the times of the Durrânî monarchy (sec. half of the XVIII century). Among numerous facts describing Tsamkanî family as a spiritual center of literary life on the eastern Afghan territories (Peshawar region) the article examines poetical anthology Majma‘ alash‘ ār of which a unique manuscript is being kept in the Berlin State Library (Ms. or. oct. 1262/Vol. 1, 1263/Vol. 2).
