Abstract

The article describes folklore elements in ‘Abd al-Hamid Momand’s poems. The analysis of didactic poetry and lyrics manifests numerous Afghan proverbs and sayings which used to be not typical of Classic Afghan poetry at the fi rst stage of its formation. In didactic poems folklore elements support Momand’s own ideas. As for his lyrics, proverbs become part of his metaphors. Altogether, it seems that folk elements do not interfere with the overall sophistication and eloquence of Momand’s style.
