Compound verbs with implicit meaning of quantity in the Japanese language
Abstract
In this article the various approaches to the study of compound verbs existing in Russian and foreign linguistics are described. Th e review of modern Japanese and American literature concerning this theme is given. Th e article carries out a semantic analysis of the meaning of compound verbs based on the hypothesis that the compound verbs of the Japanese language can express the meaning of some semantic groups, namely, reciprocal-associate meaning, the plural number of subjects, the plural number of recipients involved in verbal activity, the plural number of unanimated objects, excessive quantity of people and things, repeated verbal activity, simultaneous coexisting plurality of people and things.
