Conception of the history of Japan’s foreign policy 1945–2003 in the works of Togo Kazuhiko
Abstract
The article reviews Togo Kazuhiko’s concept of Japan’s foreign policy of the second half of 20th century. He considers his historical conception and approaches on numerous issues on Japanese, English and Russian, published in the 1990–2000s. The main points of his concept are to be found in the monographs “Japan’s Foreign Policy 1945–2003: The Quest for a Proactive Policy” (2005) and “The inside story of the negotiations on the Northern Territory. Five lost windows of opportunity” (2007). In this monograph author considers the main problems of Japans cooperation with USA, China, states of Korean Peninsula and Russia located in the region of North-East Pacific — the chief area of Japan’s diplomacy according to Togo Kazuhiko.
