Abstract

The article deals with the fatwas of Abu Su’ud-eff endi as the source on the history of family law in the Ottoman Empire in the XVI. Fatwa is an inexhaustible source of information on the Islamic law of the period studied. Th is source, like no other allows us to obtain the most reliable information about family law in the Ottoman Empire in the XVI. Particular attention in the presented article is paid on fatwas of Abu Su’ud regarding marriage registration, witnesses, permission of the guardian, the consent of the bride and the dower.
