The key concepts of social and age-related status of women in the traditional Buryat culture
Abstract
The position of women at the end of XIX — beginning of the XX centuries is characterized by the preserved traces of the maternal cult: woman-mother’s high status, a number of ideas on the origination of the heredity and names of the Buryat kins in the maternal line, status-role aspects (daughter, daughter-in-law, housewife, mother, matriarch of the family and kin, mother-in-law). All of them were supposed to have some norms and customs regulating the rules of behavior and etiquette of the society.
