Oriental studies and the role of Russia in modern perception of Caucasus
Abstract
In the article the study of the North Caucasus is based on the achievements of the Oriental studies, particularly French research tradition of the Caucasian studies. The paper results in the conclusion that it is necessary to develop scientific approach of perception of the Caucasus as a part of Russia rather than merely as part of the East. This view can be regarded from different perspectives with the following ones being considered in the article: 1. The heritage of European and domestic Oriental studies. 2. The Oriental studies in establishing the West colonial domination over the Middle East and other regions. 3. The Problem of the Oriental studies and the role of Russia in today`s perception of the Caucasus.
