Principal motives of Chon Sang Byong’s lyric poetry
Abstract
The article is an attempt to display existential motives in the poetry of Chon Sang Byong (1930–1993) — one of the most prominent man of letters, who was a witness of modernization of Republic of Korea in the second half of XX century, and also to consider the reasons of reception and dissemination of existentialism in Republic of Korea, its infl uence on Korean literature. The article focuses on poetic works of modern Korean poet Chon Sang Byong, whose works showed existential experience of individual. His landscape poetry in the early 1950 till the late 1970-s is filled with philosophical refl ections and related to problems of human existence.
