The Indians in Japan: Past and Present
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to describe the process of the formation of Indian diaspora in Japan. The author has analysed the changes in dynamics of Indian population in Japan from the middle 19th Century, when first silk merchants from India arrived to Japan, up to the present time. Also the role of Indian community in Japanese economy and politics was studied. The present paper reviews how Indians created the living space of their own in Japan, the process of their cultural and general adaptation to local Japanese society and the problems of their self- identity.
