“Ash-Shafiya fi-t-tasrif” by Ibn al-Hadjib with hierarchic system of the commentaries in Daghestan
Abstract
Arabic philology in the Daghestan manuscript collections is represented by the largest number of works, which are mainly composed in the genre of commentaries and subcommentaries, Wherein the composition and the structure of the works in the bibliographic literature are defined superficially. In the present article an attempt is made for the first time to elucidate in details the composition and the structure of one of the most sought works on grammar in Daghestan by a famous Egyptian scholar — Ibn al-Hadzhib. Ash-Shafiya fi-t-tasrif by Ibn al-Hadzbib (in 646/1249) is one of the earliest Arabic grammar writings according to the time of correspondence that are stored in the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Daghestan Scientific Centre in the Russian Academy of Science. According to the author, it was a logical continuation of his treatise on the “syntax” and it unites under its name two works that are devoted, respectively, to “morphology” (tasrīf) and to “orthography” (spelling) (khatt).
