Particles as a means of expressing modality in Chinese
Abstract
The paper discusses particles as a means of expressing modality in Chinese. The paper gives a detailed review of Chinese linguists’ studies on the category of modality and touches upon the problem of modality, expressivity and emotionality correlation. The paper gives detailed data on Chinese modal particles: their nomination, number, essential characteristics, and classifications. Furthermore, the author presents research results on the most frequently used Chinese modal particles and their contextual meanings. Refs 34. Tables 1.
