The role of informal relations (guanxi) in the social life of mainland China after 1949: Historiography of the question
Abstract
The article is concerned with the historiography of study the phenomena of the informal relations (guanxi) in Chinese society. Guanxi is a kind of an informal institution of power that connects people at different levels, like the “unwritten laws” it regulates relations between people in society and helps to solve different kinds of problems in all spheres of life. This kind of relations plays a very important role in the Chinese society and regulates different kinds of relationships. Based on literature on Russian, English and Chinese languages, the author proceeds to trace the history and development of views on these social phenomena. Refs 37.
