The motif of a heroine’s miraculous birth in ancient Indian epos
Abstract
This article discusses the motif of a miraculous/divine birth of a heroine in ancient Indian epos. This was one of the core ideas besides those of marriage and abduction of the hero’s spouse. Through this motif, the author analyzes the specifics of ancient Indian epos, the epic heroine and methods of her description. Correlations between this theme, religious concepts of ancient India and archaic agricultural cult are established.
