Abstract

This article is based on the text of the 1716 Imperial Decree on bestowing the title of the General of the Third Rank Defending the State on Urcen, the son of an Imperial relative Sunu. The Sunu family were members of the Imperial clan that adopted Christianity. They were close to Emperor Kangxi but fell into disgrace under Emperor Yungzheng. The patent to Urcen is kept in the manuscript collection of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences.
