Shirvan period in the history of Khalwati dervish order in the second half of the 14th — first half of the 16th centuries
Abstract
Studying Islamic mysticism, or tasawwuf, remains a topical issue in Oriental studies. This article discusses the activity of the Khalwatiya sufi brotherhood in Azerbaijan between the 14th and the 16th centuries. The author refers to this first period in the history of Khalwatiya as the Shirvan period since all of the Khalwatiya shaykhs at the time came from Shirvan region. The role of Sayyid Yahya Bakuvi, the shaykh and brotherhood leader in the 15th century, is analyzed in detail.
