General principles of object marking in modern Hebrew: definiteness and differential marking
Abstract
This paper deals with differential object marking (DOM ) in modern Hebrew. General aspects of the DOM theory are discussed, as are the most frequent and grammatically correct ways of marking objects in Hebrew, including both definite and indefinite noun phrases. Relations between different variants of object marking and such dimensions as definiteness, animacy, grammatical gender, etc. are also touched upon. Relevant data from other languages and periods of the Hebrew language is presented for comparison.
