First Ethiopian intellectuals and monarchy: problems of communication
Abstract
The article discusses interactions between first Ethiopian intellectuals and monarchic state in the early 20th century. A short analysis is given of the evolvement of intelligentsia in the world; the process is then described in detail based on Ethiopian data. The attitude of Ethiopian intellectuals towards reforms and means of their realization is examined. Special attention is given to communication between the intellectuals and the monarch as the only person capable of effective reforms from their point of view. Means of this communication including newspapers, books, and pamphlets are thoroughly analyzed.
