The first steps of the Jesuit Order missionaries in Vietnam in the 16th and early 17th centuries
Abstract
The article discusses the period in the history of Jesuit Order that has been poorly studied by Russian and foreign historians, i.e. the 16th and early 17th centuries. It is generally assumed that the Jesuits Order did not undertake any serious activities in Vietnam prior to the arrival of Diego Corvallio and Francesco Buzomi. However, it was largely thanks to the first Jesuit missionaries who had arrived to Vietnam in the 16th century that the order managed to consolidate and successfully convert the local population to Christianity.
