Protective value of water in Anatolian magic
Abstract
Protective value of water in Turkish magic preserved in contemporary Anatolia is discussed. An important component of ancient Turkic and later Islamic view of life, water is widely used in Turkish defensive magic. Examples might be found not only in professional and non-professional magical practices but also in symbolic decorations of garments, weapons and everyday household items.
