Power of poetry and freedom of heart: poets from the 17th and 18th centuries Wang Shi-zhen, Huang Jing-ren and Yuan Mei
Abstract
The article covers biographical and literary issues of the three eminent Qing poets, Wang Shi-zhen, Huang Jing-ren and Yuan Mei. Special emphasis is put on their poetic style, its philosophical background and cultural succession, especially on the continuity of the traditions of great Sung lyricists. Rejection of mainstream literary preferences of their time and aspiration to inherit the great poetic traditions of the past explain the specificity of their works. Wang Shi-zhen, Huang Jing-ren and Yuan Mei were a truly unique phenomenon in the Chinese literary tradition that could be perfectly correlated with the best examples of Chinese classical literature.
