History of People’s Republic of China: Chinese research and publications in 1980–1999

Abstract

The article discusses the academic institutions created in China in the 1980s and 1990s for the purpose of studying the history of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Major periodicals in the field of Chinese modern history between 1949 and 1999 are listed and reviewed. A brief overview is given of Chinese research on the history of the PRC, both individual monographs and collective works. A general review of literature published in the PRC on the subject is provided.
