Abstract

Buddhist festivals in China are an integral part of Chinese culture. Now it is difficult to imagine a traditional Chinese festival without its Buddhist elements; on the other hand, some folk traditions have become an integral part or an indispensable addition to Buddhist rituals.
This paper focuses on the three most important Buddhist festivals: Buddha’s Birthday (Yufojie 浴佛節), The Buddha’s Joyful Day (Fo huanxi ri 佛歡喜日) and The Laba Rice Porridge Festival (Laba jie 臘八節).
