The first Russian-Chinese dictionary compiled by a Chinese
Abstract
Cheng Yaochen was a famous Chinese expert on the Russian language of the early 20th century. He compiled the Russian-Chinese Business Dictionary in 1917 which marked a turning point in the history of bilingual Russian-Chinese dictionaries. Prior to his accomplishment and since the Qing Dynasty, most had been compiled by the Russians. In 1925, he published a revised edition of the first standard Russian-Chinese Dictionary approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education. This dictionary pioneered teaching Russian language in China.
