Hevajratantra: the chapter on initiation. Study, translation from Sanskrit and notes
Abstract
The article contains a study and Russian translation of the chapter on the initiation (abhiṣekapaṭala) from the Hevajratantra, one of the most important scriptures of Tantric Buddhism. The author used four critical editions of the Sanskrit text of the Hevajratantra, two important manuscripts of the Muktāvalīhevajrapañjikā, a commentary by Ratnākaraśānti on the Hevajratantra, a critical edition of this text, two critical editions of another Sanskrit commentary on the Hevajratantra, the Yogaratnamālāhevajrapañjikā of Kāṇha. The translation is supplied with introduction and detailed commentaries of the translator. The introduction contains some general information about the scripture and sheds light upon the main topics, organization of the content, and the language of the tenth chapter of the Hevajratantra. The commentaries of the translator are of two types. The first type of comments is related to philology, the second aims to clarify the content of the scripture with a help of traditional commentaries and treatises of the aforementioned authors and modern scholarly publications on this subject.
