Magical Orient — Charmed Occident
Abstract
The present article traces the evolution of an Image, familiar both for European and Russian cultures — the Image of Magical Orient. Born in the Middle Ages under the influence of Byzantine tradition as an overdue reaction to the occurrence of Islam, this Image became an integral part of the set of beliefs known as Orientalism.
