Abstract

The article describes manuscript of the medieval scholar al-Qasim bin Sallyam which is entitled Kitab al-Amthal al-Saira (“Collection of famous proverbs”). The author examines the list of the manuscripts kept in the holdings of the Library of the Faculty of Asian and African Studies in St. Petersburg State University as well as from the fund of manuscripts of the Berlin State Library. The author draws attention to the content of the works, and gives the general characteristics of the studied lists of the manuscript. The article gives examples of the most well-known proverbs, which are used in speech even today, as well as offers equivalent proverbs existing in the Russian language. Refs 2. Figs 10.
