“To be as less a tourist as possible…” (On the book “Adventures and impressions in Italy and Egypt. Travel notes about Turkey” by V.L.Kign)
Abstract
The article is dedicated to an analysis of the book by the Russian traveler V.L.Kign (Dedlov) who visited the Middle East and Turkey in 1886–1887. He was a keen observer, so his detailed and shrewd description of the political situation and everyday life of the Middle East of the period is an important source both to the history of the late 19th century Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Turkey, and to the way of perception of the Middle Eastern society by Russians.
