The Romanov and the Chakri Houses
Abstract
The article deals with various relationships between Russia and Thailand (then Siam) in the late XIX-th — early XX-th cent. Friendly contacts between representatives of of the two countries’ ruling dynasties — the Romanovs and the Chakri were of major importance in these relationships. Their pivotal points were the visits of the Russian heir, prince Nikolai to Siam in 1891 and of the King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) to Russia in 1897. The constant support rendered by Russia to Siam in its fight to stay independent was also a key feature.
