Morphology of adjectives in Dan-Gweetaa (Southern Mande)
Abstract
Unlike the majority of African languages, Dan-Gweetaa has a formally distinct and quite numerous class of adjectives. Adjective stems are subdivided into derived and non-derived ones. The latter form several phonotypes, and this division correlates with division into semantic groups. Adjective stems undergo modifications (reduplication, change of tone, transfixation, suffixation, and combinations of these morphological means) and derive intensive and plural forms; there are up to three degrees of intensity.
