The metaphorical and metonymical inner-form models of phraseological units: a case study of russian idioms and Chinese Chengyu
Abstract
In this article author introduces several variants of the metaphorical and metonymical inner-form models of phraseological units on the material of Russian idioms and Chinese Chengyu. Phraseological units of two typologically very different languages such as Russian and Chinese despite their morphological and syntactic dissimilarity often share the same motivating methods of actual meaning which can be generally distinguished as metaphor or metonymy. In conclusion, a comparative analysis and classification of idioms in different languages according to certain inner-form models of phraseological units allows us not only to study these phrases as complete objects (without any formal and semantic division) but also to find their similarities in cognitive aspects.
