Consequences of the political crisis in Thailand: the return of the Thaksin Shinawatra clan
Abstract
The article analyzes the consequences of the political crisis in Thailand at the beginning of the 21st century that escalated after the removal of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from his post and lasted until the government elections in July 2011. The main objective of the article is to reveal the reasons of the split in Thai society between the “coloured” oppositions based on their understanding of Thaksin’s policy and the formation of large-scale “yellow” and “red” movements that paralyzed political development of the country. The article evaluates the outcome of the government elections in July 2011 that became a culmination of the struggle between the “coloured” oppositions and resulted in returning of Shinawatra clan to the Thai government.
