The background, process and consequences of the revolution in Siam (1688): the reasons of failure of French geopolitical strategy in Siam in the second half of the 17th century (an analysis)
Abstract
This article covers the reasons of the crisis and the ultimate failure of the geopolitical strategy of France in the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand) in the second half of the 17th century. The author reveals the links between these events and the following facts: decrease in the catholic missionaries’ influence, complication of France’s position in the international arena, deterioration of the missions’ staff in Siam which therefore had led to France losing the general vector of its geopolitical strategy in Siam and to the revolution in Siam in 1688.
