Sanskrit in Tibet: Language in the Context of Cultural Reception
Abstract
The article is devoted to main trends of Indian influence on the Tibetan language, literature and traditional sciences. Achievements of modern Tibetan studies are used to analize the word formation models in the Tibetan language which evolved under Sanskrit influence, the organization of Buddhist text corpus, translated from Sanskrit, including works dealing with traditional Buddhist sciences. The author states the prevailing importance of the Indian cultural influence upon the development of the Tibetan language, literature and traditional sciences (predominantly grammar and poetics).
